A Senator representing Anambra Central and an agent of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra state, Victor Umeh has been reportedly blocked by soldiers from entering Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra where supplementary governorship election is currently ongoing.

According to report, a senior Army officer told the senator that he could not go to Ihiala where there is heavy security at the moment.

Senator Victor who was accompanied by some of his supporters and aides, had spent the night at the head office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka, during the collation of results of 20 Local Government Areas, was turned back by soldiers.

INEC had declared the Anambra governorship election inconclusive as it suspended a further declaration of election results pending the outcome of a supplementary election in Ihiala local government area of the state.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Florence Obi, had made the declaration at the INEC office on Monday, explaining that it is imperative under the constitution to hold election in the outstanding area of Ihiala LGA before the election can be concluded with a candidate returned.
