  • Kicks Off State-wide Consultations

By Abiola Olawale

Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has officially declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Oyo State in the 2027 general elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelabu made this known during a series of high-profile consultations with party stakeholders, positioning himself as a frontrunner in the race to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde.

Adelabu who met with APC leaders and stakeholders in Ogbomoso and Oyo zones at the residence of Senator Ayoade Adeseun, a prominent party figure, appealed for unity and support, emphasized his vision to reposition Oyo State for accelerated development.

“I’m here to tell you that I want to contest for governor of Oyo State in 2027,” he declared, highlighting his experience from previous elections and his commitment to inclusive governance.

He urged party members to forgive past grievances and focus on reclaiming the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2027.

He said: “I’m here to tell you that I want to contest for governor of Oyo State in 2027. I’m ready to put to the test all the experience I’ve gathered from the past two elections.

“I’m not against other zones becoming governor of the state, all I know is that God’s time is the best.

“Ogbomoso is very important in this state election. I’m here to seek your support and backing. I’m happy to see that all the factions in Ogbomoso are now one.”

He also called on people in the zone to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu for more dividends of democracy.

“This is another turn of the Yorubas to serve their two terms as President of Nigeria. Nigeria has a lot to benefit if Tinubu is re-elected,” Adelabu added.

The New Diplomat reports that Adelabu is Nigeria’s power minister who oversaw how the national grid has collapsed over 12 times since the beginning of 2024.

The national grid collapsed 10 times in 2024 alone and twice in 2025.
