  • Calls On Kwara Gov AbdulRazaq To Honour First Kwara Gov, Gen Bamigboye

By Abiola Olawale

A Former Nigerian Ambassador to Pakistan, with concurrent accreditation to Maldives and Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammed Bello Abioye has officially initiated a fundraising campaign to support the construction of a state-of-the-art amenities ward at The General Hospital in Omu Aran community in Kwara State.

Abioye declared that the ambitious project aims to secure N100 million Naira in donations to help give the hospital a facelift.

According to him, the building of the N100 million ward would significantly enhance the quality of healthcare facilities available to the Omu Aran community of Kwara State.

Ambassador Abioye, a Political Scientist-Diplomat, who also doubles as the President of the Omu Aran Social Club, made this call during a gala night of the association on December 27, 2024.

He stated: “May I, at this juncture, stress that the high point of today’s event is the launching of a 100 Million Naira appeal fund for the construction of an amenities ward to be donated to The General Hospital, Omu Aran.

“This groundbreaking initiative is designed to provide a healthcare facility that meets the highest standards, ensuring that patients in various socio-economic groups have access to quality medical care they deserve.

“We enjoin our honorary awardees and other eminent personalities present here today to kindly donate generously to this noble cause.”

Abioye also appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State to honour the first Military Governor of Kwara State, late Brigadier General David Lasisi Bamigboye (rtd).

He expressed his concerns that, despite the remarkable contributions of Bamigboye to the development and progress of Kwara State, none of the governors after him has taken the initiative to honour him by renaming a significant building or landmark in his name.

He continued: “In this light, we note with nostalgia that no befitting edifice has been named after the first Military Governor of Kwara state, a distinguished and celebrated son of Omu-Aran, Kwara state and Nigeria.

“His remarkable contributions to the state’s development merit a lasting memorial. The question that begs to be answered is why other notable Kwarans have been so honoured and their roles have been immortalized, but the same courtesy has not been extended towards The First Governor of Kwara State, who laid a solid foundation for the socio-economic development of the state.

“To properly commemorate the invaluable contribution of Brigadier General D.L. Bamigboye (rtd), we call on the Kwara State Government, as a matter of urgency, to rename any edifice of monumental significance in his honour.

“This gesture would stand as a timeless tribute to his visionary leadership and profound impact, ensuring that future generations remember his invaluable role in shaping the history and progress of Kwara State.”
