Justice Babagana Ashgar of the Federal High Court sitting in Katsina today, April 27, 2108 granted the former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shehu Shema bail on self recognizance.
The former governor was arraigned on April 24, 2018 before the Federal High Court Katsina by the EFCC for allegedly laundering the sum of N5,776,552,396 (Five Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy Six Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety Six Naira Only) from the account of Katsina State SURE-P.
Upon arraignment, Shema pleaded not guilty to the 26 count charge preferred against him by the EFCC and he was subsequently remanded in the custody of the Commission until today when the case came up for hearing on his bail application.
The former governor is also facing criminal prosecution by the EFCC before the High Court of Katsina on a 24 count amended charge.
He was being charged alongside three others, Ibrahim Lawal Dankaba, Sani Hamisu Makana and Ahmed Rufai Safana.
Justice Ashgar adjourned the matter to the 13th June 2018 for commencement of trial.
