Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has disclosed that Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, had sought his legal services following his altercation with a police officer that led to the arrest warrant placed on him by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Akali.

Falana, who confirmed the new development also noted that his client has enough evidence to defend himself in the law court.

He said, “I am his lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.”

There were speculations that a team of police drafted to effect Kuti’s arrest could not locate him upon getting to his residence.

While reacting to the order to arrest his client Falana disclosed that the embattled singer would turn himself in on Monday.

He said, “He is going to report himself to the police tomorrow morning. There is no problem at all.”

It would be recalled that the IGP in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had ordered the singer’s arrest yesterday,

Moreover, the Police Service Commission, PSC, Chaired by former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, on Sunday, backed the IGP’s order to arrest Seun for assaulting a police officer on duty.

According to Arase, it was unfortunate that the incident occurred when the Police Force management was dealing with officers who harassed, intimidated or assaulted civilians.

He stressed that it was worrisome that police officers have now become victims of the actions of some uncultured elites.
