Nigeria’s prominent comedian, Alibaba, has condemned the arrest of controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The TheNewDiplomat reports that Bobrisky was arrested in Lagos on Wednesday night over alleged abuse of naira, spraying of notes, and currency mutilation. He was also accused of money laundering.

Weighing in on the matter, Alibaba posted a photo on his Instagram account depicting individuals at a party spraying and trampling on currency notes.

With a touch of irony, the 58-year-old comedian pondered whether the lack of action from the EFCC was influenced by the gender of the individuals involved.

He further raised concerns about the fairness of Bobrisky’s arrest, questioning the rationale behind it.

Alibaba hinted at a potential gender bias within the EFCC, implying that women are disproportionately targeted, thus highlighting an apparent injustice in how women are treated in Nigeria.

He wrote, “And Bobrisky was arrested for what again? Because they are men? This is not right. The other time a celebrity lady was sentenced for the same thing,” he wrote.

“Now, EFCC has arrested another lady for the same thing that men get away with. The way we treat women in this country is not good. Mennnnn, I just taya.”

Bobrisky is expected to be appear in court today, Friday, April 5, 2024 to respond to the charges leveled against him by the EFCC.
