The Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday witnessed a historic moment as renowned legal luminary, Albert Akpomudje, SAN, was formally installed as the 14th Ohworode of the ancient kingdom.
Akpomudje, now bearing the royal title Eyanvwien-Alaka I, was crowned at exactly 9:56 a.m. at Eyanvien Hall, Otorere, by Olorogun Philip Korobor Atuduhor, the Okpako r’Illorogun (Oldest Chief) of Olomu. The coronation was consecrated by the Archbishop of Bendel Province, Dr Cyril Odotemu, and heralded by 21 cannon shots.
The title Eyanvwien-Alaka I is steeped in heritage, honouring Eyanvwien, first son of Alaka, one of the co-founders of Olomu Kingdom.
Vanguard reports that following the crowning, the new monarch was escorted in a long motorcade to Eyanvien Hall in Oviri Olomu, headquarters of the Eyanvien Ruling House, where he was welcomed with 14 cannon shots, symbolizing his position as the 14th Ohworode.
Festivities continued as the convoy proceeded to his expansive palace in Akperhe Olomu for a grand reception.
Akpomudje’s installation follows the kingdom’s established rotational succession system among its three ruling houses, marking the beginning of a new era of leadership after the passing of his predecessor.
In his inaugural address, the new Ohworode pledged to promote peace, preserve the kingdom’s rich traditions, and drive development in Olomu. He also emphasized collaboration with the traditional council and younger generations to sustain unity and progress.
The colourful ceremony drew government officials, traditional leaders, and dignitaries, reflecting the enduring cultural strength of Olomu Kingdom and its important role in regional harmony.
