The Inspector General of Police Ibrahim K. Idris has approved the posting of a new Commissioner of Police CP Muazu Zubairu Halilu to Akwa Ibom State Police Command.
CP Halilu takes over from CP Don Awunah, as the 22nd Commissioner of Police in the State who recently was equally facing an upsurge of criminal activity in the State.
CP Muazu Zubairu Halilu holds a Bsc (Hons) degree in Botany from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Advance Diploma in Public Admin University of Abuja, Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from University of Lagos and Masters degree in Policy and Strategic Management from International University of Bamenda, Cameroon.
He has served the Nigeria Police Force in various capacities, amongst which are Divisional Police Officer–Jimeta (Adamawa State), Head Anti-fraud Unit, Nigeria Police FCID Abuja, IGP Special Investigation Unit, Head of Operations, EFCC, Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Police Special Fraud Unit FCID, Deputy Commissioner of Police Air Port Police Command Lagos, Commissioner of Police (Admin) Department of Finance and Admin Force Headquarters Abuja, Commissioner of Police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Police Force Headquarters Abuja and lately Commissioner of Police, Niger State Police Command.
CP Halilu was however challenged by two bank robbery incidents in Uyo, as he resumed duties on Tuesday. The criminals were reported to have robbed a customer who made heavy withdrawal early in the afternoon and escaped into Federal housing, Abak Road, Uyo.
The second incident was unsuccessful with sporadic gun shots that badly injured a lady. She was seen rushed to the hospital in a tricycle. The shooting happened about 4:40pm near FCMB, UBA axis of Abak Road.
Eye witness and bank staff confirmed the attack saying that heavy gun shots were fired but nobody could identify which bank was robbed. The Police Public Relations, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu confirmed the attack, but later assured that no bank was robbed as his men were on top of the situation.
