A dramatic situation unfolded at the Senate on Wednesday as President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio took a swipe at Senator Osita Ngwu, the lawmaker representing Enugu East Senatorial District of Enugu at the Senate.

The incident occurred after Ngwu expressed his admiration for the beauty of Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who had been screened for the ministerial nomination.

When Akpabio opened the floor for questions, Ngwu started by applauding Bianca’s beauty to which he attracted a rebuke.

“Mr President, the beautiful nominee standing before us,” the lawmaker said.

However, Akpabio quickly stepped in with a cautionary remark. Akpabio stated: “Restrict yourself to the resume. Forget the word beautiful. She didn’t put in the CV that she is beautiful.”

The conversation between Ngwu and Akpabio caused a ripple of laughter among Senators. Ngwu thereafter proceeded to laud the profile and competence of the nominee.

The New Diplomat reports that Bianca is among the list of names President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation as Ministers.

It would be recalled that the names of the seven ministerial nominees screened by the Senate includes: Bianca, Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Suwaiba Said Ahmad.

The New Diplomat reports that Odumegwu-Ojukwu is a Nigerian politician, diplomat, lawyer, businesswoman and beauty pageant titleholder.

She is a widow of former Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. She is a multiple international pageant titleholder, having won Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Miss Africa, and Miss Intercontinental.

Formerly a presidential aide, and she was Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain in 2012.
