Viral reports got social media buzzing on Thursday evening as concerns mount over the health of former Governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

But Ajimobi’s daughter-in-law, Mrs Fatima Ganduje-Ajimobi and media aide, Mr. Tunji Bolaji have both denounced the rumoured death of the top politician as put out on the social media.

Fatima in a tweet said “our father is still alive, alhamdulillah”.

Also, Ajimobi’s media aide, Bolaji in a statement released to debunk the flying rumours said: “My attention has been drawn to the rumours circulating on the social media about my principal. Kindly disregard. We, however, continue to pray for him. Thank you all for the show of concern.”

In less than an hour after the purported news was pushed out, rumours reached the rooftop, however, some social media commentators began yanking off their posts after Ajimobi’s family and associates confirmed he is alive.

Ajimobi has been reportedly down with complications from the contagion–Covid-19. He was reported to be receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of First Cardiology Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The former Oyo Governor was on Wednesday appointed as the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid the high-level drama that ensued at the APC National Headquarters on that day.

However, due to his inability to resume official duty immediately, the Vice-Chairman (South-South) of the APC, Prince Hilliard Eta was asked to act in his stead pending his resumption.

Ajimobi was the Deputy Chairman (South) of his party before he was elevated to the position of the Acting APC Chair following the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the substantive Chairman of the party by the Appeal Court on Wednesday.
