Tension has begun to escalate as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has instructed all its affiliates nationwide to embark on a peaceful prayer procession on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

This is as the President of the NLC, Mr Joe Ajaero, is expected to honour the summons by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of treason and terrorism financing today, Thursday.

This decision was made known in a letter issued by the General Secretary of NLC, Mr Emmanuel Ugboaja, and addressed to all affiliates and state councils on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ugboaja, in the letter, directed all state councils and affiliates to gather on Thursday for a peaceful procession and prayer session in solidarity with Ajaero.

The letter reads in part: “We call on all NLC affiliates and state councils to mobilise their members in Abuja and across the states to show solidarity.

“All Central Working Committee members resident in Abuja and other members, are expected to assemble at the National Headquarters of the NLC by 8:00 am on Aug. 29.

“This is to accompany the President to the Police for the scheduled interaction.”

It would be recalled that the Police had invited Ajaero for interrogation on charges related to alleged “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion and cybercrime”
