By Babafemi Ojudu We have truly degenerated in Nigeria. Can you imagine a Shehu Shagari as minister in the First Republic behaving this way? Or a Richard Akinjide in the Second? Or Chief Bola Ige in the Third? Public life in Nigeria has lost its dignity. The solemnity once associated with leadership has been replaced…

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has revealed the reasons why the electorate of the state voted massively for him in the just-concluded governorship election of the state.

Aiyedatiwa, who spoke with the press after winning the Ondo election, said the people of the state believe in him.

He explained that he was the only governorship candidate that campaigned in all the 18 local government areas of the state.

He stated that his campaigns across the state made him know the challenges of the residents of the state.

He said: “The people should expect better service. And that’s what they’ve been looking forward to because I campaigned across the entire local government.

“The only candidate that went through the entire local government, not just the capital city of the local government, all communities. In almost all the communities we visited, we saw the roads and the way they looked like, the environment they were living in; we heard their voices, we read their messages, and we listened and responded to questions and their yearnings and aspirations.

“So, they have that belief that their hope is in me. They believe that whatever we say is what we will do. We will not tell them what we cannot do. We will do all that we have promised within the limited resources available to us.”

The New Diplomat reports that Aiyedatiwa won the 2024 governorship election of Ondo State by polling 366,781 votes to defeat his closest rival and a former deputy governor of the state Ajayi Agboola who flew the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag. He scored 117,845 votes, more than twice lower than the APC candidate.
