An aide to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, Sulaiman Haruna, has debunked rumours that the first lady is pregnant or has any ailment following photos of her principal that have been in circulation.
Aisha Buhari’s new pictures have been fuelling pregnancy rumours across the country, with Nigerians wondering whether she is expecting a baby.
In one of the pictures, Mrs Buhari was seen in a yellow lace kaftan and a black shawl draped over what appeared like a baby bump as she tenderly placed her right hand on it.
She was seen alongside her husband, President Muhamadu Buhari and surrounded by security officials, with one of them carrying her handbags in the picture after they returned from their recent trip to Turkey.
“Is Aisha Buhari pregnant or what is in her stomach,” a curious Twitter user @Promise, said.
Another Twitter user, @Solowizzy also commented on the photos, stating, “Nigerians, what do you think about this pictures? Aisha Buhari is obviously pregnant.”
In a hilarious tweet, @Alamin97296003 congratulated 79-year-old Mr Buhari for his “hard work.”
However, Sulaiman Haruna, Aisha’s spokesperson, in a chat with BBC Pidgin, on Tuesday said: “I can assure you 100 per cent that our first lady is perfectly okay.
“She is neither sick nor pregnant as some reports claim.
“Some of these reports are from mischief-makers who don’t mean well.
“You know, nowadays, people can tamper with photos,” he said.
Meanwhile, Aisha has ordered all her staff to proceed on an indefinite leave.
This was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, from the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Health and Development Partners in the First Lady’s office, Mohammed Kamal.
In the statement, Kamal noted that the First Lady ordered the members of staff in her office to proceed on an indefinite leave and continue work virtually.
“This serves to inform all members of staff that the office of the First Lady will be closed for the upcoming festive period of Christmas and New Year.
“To this end, all staff members are requested to proceed on leave, until further notice.
“Please note that official engagements and work can also continue virtually as it was done previously.
“Her Excellency appreciates and thanks all staff members for their commitment and hard work and wishes all a happy festive period ahead,” the statement, posted on the verified Instagram handle of the President’s wife, read.
