The Nigerian passport has been ranked among the lowest in the latest global passport rankings.

According to latest data, the Nigerian passport is positioned at 92nd globally in 2024. This data was released by Henley Passport Index, which assesses passports rankings based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

The latest ranking represents an improvement of the Nigerian passport from its 97th position in 2023 but still places it among the least powerful passports in Africa and the world.

The Henley Passport Index, based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), shows that Nigerian passport holders can access only 46 countries visa-free or with visa-on-arrival, highlighting significant mobility constraints.

This low ranking is often attributed to geopolitical factors and domestic issues like insecurity, corruption, and poor governance, which have impacted Nigeria’s global acceptance.
