The Central bank Governor, Mr Goodwin Emefiele, yesterday, failed again to honour the invitation of members of the House of Representatives to clear the dust being generated by the newly introduced cash policy and limited cash withdrawal.

Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabimila who announced Emefiele’s absence through a letter by the CBN Governor, said his inability to honour the invitation was inevitable.

The Speaker said the CBN Governor have an urgent business transactions at far away United States of America and would not be able to honour the invitation.
Emefiele however apologized to the House for his unavoidable absence.

But in a swift reaction, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu, majority leader, stated that the House had earlier passed a resolution suspended the Act that contains the provisions of the cashless policy.

Collaborating Elumelu’s stance, Honourable Dagiwa insisted that the limited cash withdrawal policy recently introduced by the CBN remains suspended.
The Speaker and the House, however issued a fresh invitation to the CBN Governor, and Thursday was fixed for the appearing Emefiele.

It would be recalled that the limited cash withdrawal policy by the CBN was dead on arrival as it was greeted by avalanche of criticisms. It was even alleged in certain quarters, that the policy was a deliberate attempts to tighten the nose of politicians in order to scuttle their rigging machineries ahead of the 2023 general elections that is barely sixty days away.
