Juventus have sacked head coach Maurizio Sarri a day after being knocked out of the Champions League in the last-16 stage to Lyon on Friday.

The Serie A champions announced Sarri’s sacking in a statement released on their official website on Saturday.sarri new coach

Sarri only took charge of Juventus in June last year, signing a three-year contract at the time, and led the side to a ninth consecutive Serie A title last month.

Despite a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo which gave Juventus 2-1 win, Lyon progressed on the away goals rule after winning the first-leg 1-0.

“Juventus Football Club announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the First Team,” the club announced.

“The club would like to thank the coach for writing a new page in Juventus history with the victory of the ninth consecutive Scudetto, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the categories of Italian football.”
