The Confederation of African Football is set to give the final determination on the case between the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the Libyan FA on Wednesday.
The case is in respect of the cancelled AFCON qualifying Group D between Libya and Nigeria, which was initially scheduled for Benina Martyrs Stadium on October 15.
It was gathered that the CAF has received responses from both countries and will announce the final decision on the matter on Wednesday.
The New Diplomat also gathered that CAF is expected to give a verdict regarding the Libya player’s ordeal during the first leg in Nigeria in October, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Super Eagles and the reverse fixture that was meant to have held at the 10,550-capacity, Libya’s first all-seater stadium, respectively.
It would be recalled that Nigeria had arrived for the match on Sunday, October 14. However, their flight was diverted to Al Abraq International Airport, which is about three hours away by road to Benghazi, the venue of the match.
The Libyan authorities left them stranded at the airport for approximately 17 hours. Following the ordeals, the NFF complained to the CAF, lamenting what they described as “inhumane treatment of its players and officials.”
However, the Libyan Federation, in its response said that the Nigerians did not cooperate with them in any way, whether in the first or second leg, indicating that their experience is a child’s play compared to theirs while in Nigeria for the first leg.
