  • Congratulatory messages have begun to roll in already for the Osun state governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke. 

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa; Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State; Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State are all on the list of individuals who have congratulated Adeleke on securing victory at the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.

The New Diplomat had reported that Adeleke defied all odds to defeat the incumbent governor, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Adegboyega Oyetola.

Adeleke polled a total of 403,371 votes to defeat Oyetola who scored 375,027 votes. Adeleke won a total of 17 local government areas. He polled massive votes in Osogbo LGA, Olorunda LGA, Ilesa West LGA, Ila LGA, areas which are traditionally strong base of APC in Osun state.

“I declare Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen, on behalf of the chairman of INEC, of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” The Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, declared on Sunday.

Since the declaration, Atiku had took to his social media accounts to congratulate Adeleke on his victory.

According to him, Adeleke’s victory is a testament to the fact that the Nigerian citizens are ready to vote for their preferred candidate come 2023.

He tweeted, “Light has come to Osun. Congratulations, Sen. @AAdeleke_01, on a well-fought victory. Also, hearty congratulations to the @OfficialPDPNig family and all stakeholders who came together to make this possible. “Most importantly, congratulations to the great people of Osun State for proving that power indeed belongs to the people. -AA #OsunDecides #ImoleOsun”

Likewise, Okowa who took to his official Twitter page said  the victory has shown that the PDP is ready to wrestle for power im 2023.

He tweeted, “I congratulate the people of Osun State and my brother, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the @OfficialPDPNig candidate for a decisive victory at yesterday’s polls.

“Senator Adeleke’s victory has shown the entire country that the PDP is ready, willing, and able to rescue Nigeria in 2023. It not only sets the momentum for the future, but it also highlights the need for unity within our ranks.

“This is why, as we prepare for the arduous task ahead, I pray that our party can sustain this drive into next year, as we work to elect Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the next President of Nigeria.”

Tambuwal tweeted, “The good people of Osun State have spoken loud & clear that politics is local. I want to congratulate my brother, Senator @IsiakaAdeleke1 on his victory. The @OfficialPDPNig family appreciates the Good people of Osun for sending the signal that H.E @atiku is coming.”

Also, Mohammed tweeted, “Congratulations to the @OfficialPDPNig and all stakeholders who worked day and night to make this possible. Power to The People! #OsunDecides”
