The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has rejoiced with the National President of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo over his re-election at the just concluded 7th triennial delegates’ conference in Umuahia, Abia State.

The conference which saw the election into offices of national officers of the NUJĀ  took place at the Dr Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Abia State.

The Forum described the end result of the election as impressive, saying it was proud that despite initial setbacks, the conference and the election that followed it were reported to be peaceful.

ACF noted that theĀ conference, with the theme, “Media In Times of National Renewal” was a testimony to the constructive role the NUJ has been playing since Chris Isiguzo took over its leadership as President three years ago.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, ACF remarked that “we note at the ACF that the solidĀ support he has received all over the country from members of the union made his re-election smooth as even his main challenger Yusuf Idris withdraw his candidature thus enabling him to be returned unopposed.

“The NUJ has thus proved that while their members freely criticize the way we organize our elections and run our public affairs, they are willing to show us the best way to go.

“We call on the NUJ President who will be in office up to the time of general elections in 2023, to use whatever powers the office gives him to prevail on Nigerian journalists to play a very positive role to ensure we have a peaceful election in 2023.

“The ACF is reminding the journalists that it is only when Nigeria is democratic and peaceful that they will enjoy the practice of their profession.

“As a none governmental organization, we at the ACF have enjoyed the cooperation of Nigerian journalists and we hope that this cordial relationship will continue for the next three years as the re-elected Chris Isiguzu begins his second term.”
