The abductees from Government Science Secondary School Kagara, in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have been released after spending 10 days in the custody of their captors.

A government source who reportedly confirmed the release said they are on their way to Minna, the state capital.

They were released in the early hours of Saturday in Madaka area of Rafi local government area of Niger state.

According to him, the abductees were released from a location close to where the 53 bus passengers kidnapped by the bandits were released a week ago.

They are expected to be received by Governor Abubakar Bello at the Government House in Minna.

In her reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to Niger State Governor, Mary Noel-Berje, affirmed that she heard about the release but has not been officially informed.

“I heard about the release but I have not been officially informed because there are still some challenges. It is when they finally arrive here in Minna and received by Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello before we really believe and celebrate,” she remarked.

Reportedly, some of the parents of the students are also on their way to Minna as they anticipate receiving their wards.

Recall Gunmen had on February 17 stormed the school and whisked away 42 people, including 27 students from the Kagara school.
