The chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, has regained his freedom after eleven days in captivity.

It was gathered that Aziegbemi arrived at his residence around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

The news of his release was broken by the lawmaker representing the Edo Central Senatorial District, Senator Odion Ugbesia around 6.17 a.m., but he didn’t confirm whether ransom was paid to secure the release of the PDP chairman.

It would be recalled that the chairman was abducted at gunpoint in the late hours of Friday, March 15, 2024. Sources said the PDP chairman was kidnapped at the entrance of his house along Country Home Hotel Road, Benin City, after the meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state.

A family source had disclosed on Sunday to journalists in Benin that the abductors made contact with his family on Friday, demanding N500m ransom for his release.
