Prof. Abayomi Fasina has emerged as the 4th Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti.

Until now, he was the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration of the institution.

The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun in a telephone conversation with The New Diplomat affirmed Fasina’s emergence.

He said, “Yes, Prof. Fasina has emerged as the institution’s 4th Vice Chancellor. He is expected to resume by February.”

Recall that the process of appointing a new Vice Chancellor at the institution began in August, 2020 with the final shortlisting of nine professors.

However, the process was temporary stopped on Wednesday 9 December, 2020 over allegations of imposition and marked irregularities.

The University’s Council Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Yahuza said, “the decision to stop the process of appointing a new Vice Chancellor was taken to accommodate grievances and complaints of some stakeholders.”

Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) was one of the nine Federal Universities established by the by the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The university pionner Vice chancellor was Prof. Chinedu Nebo. Upon his appointment as Minister of Power, Professor Nebo was succeeded by Prof. Michael Azuzu (UNN).

In 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari announced the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun as the institution’s 3rd Vice Chancellor.

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fasina is a Professor of Pedology in the Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Oye Ekiti.

He holds PhD from the University of Ibadan in 1978. Professor Fasina has also served as the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture Sciences, Ekiti State University (2004-2006, 2009-2014) respectively.
