  • As Vandrezzer FC Donates N500,000 To SWAN

Akwa Ibom State Sports Writers Association (SWA) has celebrated its new members, including the Senior Special Assistant to the governor and Chairman of Akwa United Football Club, Mr Paul Bassey.

Comrade Emmanuel Akpan-led executives were visibly excited that Paul Bassey whom NUJ Chairman, Amos Etuk described as ‘ancestors’ has finally joined the state Chapter.Akwa Ibom State

The immediate past secretary and current chairman of SWAN Akwa Ibom State, Mr Akpan could not hide his feelings.

He said: “We’re happy to have the SSA to the governor and Chairman Akwa United FC to join us as a member. Though he has been a SWAN member in Lagos and other places, but for the first time in history, he joined us officially as a member. To me I feel it’s an achievement that this administration has been able to bring in the ace journalist, rated CAF instructor, FIFA official and a Club chairman to join us as a member. I feel very happy.”

Mr Emmanuel Akpan hopes to tap from Paul Bassey’s wealth of experience for his successful administration as chairman of SWAN, Akwa Ibom State chapter.

Elder Paul Bassey in response promised to subject himself to the leadership, service and success of SWAN Akwa Ibom.

Bassey received a standing ovation from members of the SWAN who attended the Congress meeting at NUJ Press Centre in Uyo.

Meanwhile, Vandrezzer FC has donated N500,000 for palliative care for members of SWAN. This donation followed N500,000 cash and bags of rice donated by Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Monday Uko as COVID 19 relief material.

At the Congress, members unanimously appreciated the good gesture of the prolific NNL side towards sports writers as the Covid-19 effect bites harder on economies and welfare of SWAN members.

A resolution was reached for the executive of SWAN to issued a letter of appreciation and a souvenir to commemorate Vandrezzer FC show of love.
