Many motorists are feared dead as multiple accidents caused an explosion along Ilesa-Akure highway in Osun State, Monday.

A diesel-laden tanker was said to have spilled its content on the highway, causing an explosion that affected several vehicles.

The sad incident was said to have happened before noon at Erin Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area.

According to an eyewitness, many
vehicles were affected and there are a number of casualties.

“The officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps are on the ground, diverting motorists to ply Ipetu Ijesa town to ease the traffic.

“Many people are burnt to death while some sustain severe burns. I don’t know the numbers of those that are affected now. The situation is very terrible, he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola confirmed the multiple accidents.

However, she could not give the number of casualties yet.
