The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has expressed shock and surprise at the untimely demise of a former Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice of  Delta State, Mr Dafe Akpedeye, SAN.

DSP Omo-Agege, a Lawyer also by profession and the Senator representing  Delta Central Senatorial zone at the upper legislative chambers in his condolences to the family of   the late Akpedeye  said the deceased’s immense contributions to the overall development of Delta state and the country in general will remain evergreen in our hearts.

In his condolence message to the family, Senator Omo-Agege described the deceased as one of the shinning lights of the state in the legal profession, adding that his law practice spanned various key areas of specialty, including litigation, corporate law, arbitration, and mediation, oil and gas, among others.

Among other prestigious positions held, Akpedeye served as the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Delta State, Nigeria between 2007 and 2009. He was an Accredited Tutor of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators 2000 -2020 and a Senior Law Lecturer at Delta State University, Nigeria from 1997 to 2020.

 Akpedeye, a well talented legal mind, jovial and highly regarded,  was  a UK-qualified Chartered Arbitrator and a CEDR Certified Mediator. In 2014,  and in recognition of his contributions to development issues, the federal government of Nigeria conferred on him  the prestigious National Honour of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR).

In a statement released by his special adviser on Media and Publicity,  Mr Yomi Odunuga, the Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege, who also serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution, said not-withstanding Akpedeye’s relatively short stint as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, he left an indelible mark as the state’s chief law officer.

He said: “The news of the demise of Dafe Akpedeye, SAN came to me as a rude shock and a surprise. The UK-qualified Chartered Arbitrator and CEDR Certified Mediator distinguished himself as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Delta State.

“His immense contributions to the development of the state and country will remain evergreen in our hearts.

“It was to his credit that as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the first edition of the Annotated Laws of Delta State was drafted and published – the first of its kind in the West African region.”

While  condoling the government and people of Delta state on the death of the erstwhile Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Omo-Agege  prayed  God Almighty to grant Akpedeye’s soul eternal rest. He called on all to remember the deceased family in their prayers at these trying moments.
