KADUNA State governor-elect, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, at the weekend advised people of the state, especially All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters not to resort to violence to avenge the death of his  campaign coordinator, Markus Ishaya.

Rather, he said they should abide by the rule of law while showing their displeasure on the incident.

Markus

Ishaya, who was El-Rufai’s coordinator in Atuku Ward was killed last week by gunmen in Jema’a local  council, where he played an active role in the success achieved by APC in the area.

El-Rufai was represented at the funeral by his deputy, Mr. Bala Barnabas Bantex.

He said: “We received the news of Markus’ murder with pain, but we pray that the Almighty God will grant him eternal rest. Though he was cut in his prime, he exhibited courage, fearlessness and commitment in the struggle for a better Nigeria. He resisted injustice and stood firm even in the heat of the general elections.

“Markus did his best to uphold democratic principles. He lived a short life but wrote his name in gold and died upholding the common good. What happened is evil and a desecration of human life. We will not relent in demanding justice, not minding how long it will take.”

The governor-elect, who appealed for calm in the state, stressed further, “Markus lived a worthy life. We will not forget his sacrifice. Our hearty condolence goes to his immediate family, community and fellow party members.”
