The All Progressives Congress in Edo State has rejected the results of September 19 governorship election in the state on grounds of alleged irregularities.
Reacting to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), the Edo State Chairman of the APC Media Campaign Council, Mr John Mayaki also called on party members to stay calm while party leaders study the result and weigh the next line of action.
He said “the party rejects the result”, saying there are “strong-arm tactics,” during the gubernatorial election.”
“Our people were arbitrarily arrested, many of the figures were fabricated,” added the terse statement, which the party said was only a preliminary reaction.
The statement further alleged illicit tampering with results. It alleged: “Areas where we won, they cancelled them. They decreased the votes in areas we had advantages. They rejected our results and jerked up theirs.”
Recall that the INEC has since declared PDP’s governorship candidate and incumbent governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki winner of Saturday, September 19 gubernatorial election in Edo state.
On his part, the APC governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu while aligning and re-echoing APC’s position said he was still studying the outcome of the poll and he along with other party leaders would soon make their position public.
