The winner of the Edo governorship election, Mr Godwin Obaseki has described his victory at the election held on Saturday as the triumph of Edo people over godfatherism.

Obaseki, an incumbent governor and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship andidate got re-elected, Sunday, by scoring the highest votes — 307,955.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Obaseki as the winner of the Edo gubernatorial election, 2020.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, announced the total result of the election.

According to the collated results of the governorship election in 18 LGAs announced by Rim-Rukeh, on Sunday, Obaseki garnered 307,955 votes to defeat APC’s Ize-Iyamu, who polled 223,619 votes.

Reacting to his victory, Obaseki who wrote on his twitter handle said: “Words fail me in saluting our teeming supporters who displayed immense courage in the face of threats, intimidation and brutalization. The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us this triumph over godfatherism. Congratulation to all Edo people. This is our victory.”

Obaseki won 13 local government while his opponent, Ize Iyamu won 5.
