  • PDP Clears 13 LGAs, APC Wins 5
  • Ovia Southwest’s Results Seal Obaseki’s Victory
  • Oshiomhole Delivers Own LGA

As Governor Godwin Obaseki cleared 13 LGAs to bag a re-election victory, the immediate National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole held on to his local government, Etsako West in Edo North, making it a fortress of some sorts as the People’s Democratic Party failed to pull the massive vote numbers it has garnered elsewhere in the Edo governorship election.

According to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Etsako West, the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu had polled 26,149 votes to defeat Obaseki who polled 17,959 votes.

48,846 voters were accredited for the election in the local government, while some votes were canceled in Ward 10.

Recall Oshiomhole and Obaseki’s godson/godfather relationship has since hit the rock, dominating much of run-up to the guber poll and even helped to define it in some quarters as Obaseki ported to the PDP after he was disqualified by APC, something many saw as Oshiomhole’s way of fighting back.

The whole hullabaloo and strong sentiments among voters were sustained during the weeks-long campaign up to the election morning, Saturday.

However, the former APC Chairman may have passed a message with the latest results that he’s not a pushover at the home front.

Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki of the PDP is cruising ahead of his APC counterpart, Ize-Iyamu, results from 18 local councils declared by INEC has shown.

According to the collated results of the governorship election announced in 18 LGAs on Sunday Obaseki is ahead with 307,955 votes.

APC’s Ize-Iyamu has garnered 223,619 votes

While the PDP won in 13 councils, APC’s Ize-Iyamu only grabbed five, including Oshiomhole’s Etsako West.
