  • As Media Network Prepares For Public Lecture, Award

As the National Assembly pushes for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution, with a view to effecting some alterations to suit the yearnings of most Nigerians, an African-based media organization, the Afrikanwatch Network, has urged Nigerians to support the move.

The Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the media outfit, Mr. Mark C. Orgu, made this call in a statement released ahead of the organization’s 2020 Public Lecture and Award, in Lagos, South-west Nigeria.

According to him, although the 1999 Constitution was a product of the military rule, it has become necessary to review it to meet the exigency of the present day in the country.Constitution Nigerians

He therefore urged all Nigerians to express their support and solidarity by contributing their inputs into the exercise, especially during the public hearing.

Meanwhile, preparations are in top gear for the 2020 Lecture Award of the media organization scheduled to hold on October 10, 2020 at the Emmanuel Unachukwu Hall, Alumni Association Complex, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.

This year’s award event with the theme ‘1999 Constitution and the Economy: What hope for the Nigerian people’, will be chaired by no less a personality than Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.

Orgu further disclosed that a short analysis of this year’s theme will be given by Prof. Timothy Atte, a renowned lawyer, adding that discussants will include: Prof. Solomon Akinboye, A professor of Political Science and International Relations, University of Lagos, Col. (Barr) Abayomi Dare retd, former legal Director of the Nigerian Army, Sen. Femi Okurounmu and Chief (Dr.) Nzeribe Okegbue JP.

According to him, the event would be held in strict compliance with the NCDC guidelines.

Orgu also disclosed that the awardees shall include: Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, Prof. Solomon Akinboye, former Dean of SPGS, UNILAG and Dr. Samuel O. Ossai, Commissioner, DESOPADEC.

Other awardees expected are Chief (Dr.) Sunday Ovba, Former President, Hoteliers Association of Nigeria, Lagos chapter, Sen. Florence Ita-Giwa, HRH, Oba (Barr.) Rufus Olarewaju Ajayi, JP and Engr. William Metieh, Senior Technical Adviser to the Presidential Taskforce on Power.

Engr. Enebi Shaibu Onuchayo, Deputy Director, Inspection and Compliance, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, Vice President of NAGAF and Prof. Andrew Obafemi, Professorial Chair and Director for Centre for disaster risk Management, University of Port Harcourt are among the awardees.

The Publisher/Editor-in-chief, further disclosed that the media outfit will use the occasion to confer Afrikanwatch Lifetime Grand National Mentor on Chief (Dr) Nzeribe Okegbue JP, Rev. Fr. (Prof) Anthony Kanu (OSA) (Rector, Villanova), Col. (Barr.) Yomi Dare retd and Dr. Ademola Azeez .(Provost, FCE, Technical Akoka).

Others in this category include Prof. Timothy Atte, a Consultant on Defense, Security and International Law and Military Justice Jurisprudence and Tunde Ladipo (Assistant Controller-General, Nigerian Correctional Service).
