- Sets Up Car Manufacturing Plant

Again, the Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has refuted the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report that ranked the state second after Imo state on national unemployment chart.
Udom said that the car assembly and manufacturing plant and other projects going on in the state will create more employment opportunities in Akwa Ibom.
Gov Emmanuel also questioned the parameters NBS used to arrive at its report.
The governor during the 6th media parley at the government house asked NBS to make public the methods adopted to generate the statistics.
The governor, however, pointed out activities that proved his administration was doing enough to create employment in the oil rich state.
“As at today we have launched over 18 new factories in the state, and if you check the level of construction, every local government area you go to is a construction site. Each of those casual workers earn a minimum of N4000 per day. They work 6 days per week, they earn N24,000 per week, multiply that by 4. Find out even people who are working in international institutions how much do they pay them a month? What do people call employment?It seems what they call employment is the number of people you take in civil service. Even in civil service, in the past two years we have increased the number of doctors to 460 plus and we have never fired one person.” Gov Emmanuel said.
“Statistics has its own procedure how you pick and the scientific method that you follow, how you analyze your data and how you come up with your conclusion.”
Meanwhile, the automobile plant constructed by Mimshac/Merkavim Transportation Technologies was set up at Ikot Ukap, Itam in Itu LGA.
The company’s MD, Mr. Valentine Okorie at the plant prefabricated site said, “what is expected here is a full package assembling and manufacturing automobile company which takes care of all faucet of automobile technology.”
