Mamman Daura, a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari, has been flown to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.

According to a presidency source, Daura travelled for his regular medical check up, which was delayed because of the Covid-19 restrictions.

The 80-year-old was reportedly flown in a private jet to the UK, Wednesday.

“It’s not an emergency trip, it was planned long ago but was delayed by this pandemic, and you know he has been going to the UK to see his doctors,” the source said.

Daura is often seen by Nigerians as one of the few most influential personalities around President Buhari, helping him to make some key decisions.

Daura’s recent outburst on rotational presidency, asking the country to forgo zoning for competence, has continued to generate heated debates in the country.

However, both the ruling APC and opposition PDP rejected his idea while the presidency said he was speaking only for himself and not for the president.

Nigerians have been having their say on the Daura’s medical trip, expressing concerns over the health of members of the Buhari’s kitchen cabinet.

Recall President Buhari recently lost two of his longtime allies, Malam Isa Funtua and the former Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari.

Daura’s foreign medical trip has renewed concerns, raising comments from Nigerians.
