The factional speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Victor Edoror, has said his parallel Assembly would impeach State Governor, Mr, Godwin Obaseki if flouts the law.

Edoror, who spoke to newsmen after Wednesday’s sitting of his faction at an unknown address, said the decisions taken at the sitting were binding and if the executive refused to implement those decisions, he would face the wrath of the law.

Edoror said, “We are not ready to impeach, unless they demand it by trying to flout provisions of the constitution. You cannot just impeach anybody unless he commits an offence.

“We can’t impeach anyone who does not go against the law. Offences must have been committed. Constitutional provisions must have been violated before talking about impeachment. For us, we don’t intend to impeach anyone.”

Mr Victor Edoror, was made speaker after 14 assembly members loyal to the former Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, were sworn-in at a undisclosed location, away from the House of Assembly complex, on August 6, last Thursday.

There now appears to be two speakers at the Edo House of Assemby and a divided house: Mr Francis Okiye-led House of Assembly loyal to the governor (7 members) and Mr Victor Edoror-led Assemby members who are 17 in number.

Mr Edoror promised the people of Edo the dividends of democracy.

“We are out to give legislation to the people and provide quality service. We have no ulterior motive, he added

The house adjourned its sitting to 18 August, 2020
