It was chaotic scene on Friday morning around the Nigerian Army Signal Barracks in the Mile 2 area of Lagos as a petrol tanker fell causing soldiers battled to restore order at the scene.
The tanker carrying fuel was said to be coming from a tank farm in nearby Satellite Town and it fell into a gully in front of the barracks after the driver lost control.
At least one person, a yet-to-be identified female is said to have died at the scene.

Men of Lagos State Fire Service and of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were mobilized and tried to salvage the situation as the fuel continues to pour ceaselessly while the army has condoned off the scene to prevent okada riders from scooping the fuel.
Spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident.
“LASEMA Response Team is at Mile 2, inward the Nigerian Army Signal Barracks in recovery operation of a fully-loaded Oil Tanker conveying 55,000 litres of petrol involved in a lone accident which killed a female adult,” he added.

The situation has caused traffic gridlock along the Mile 2- Festac road.
Motorists that ply the area has incessantly complained of the bad road along Mile 2 despite the road repair contract awarded to Chinese construction firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
