For the fifth day running, Nigeria recorded declining numbers in the novel coronavirus cases with only 288 cases recorded nationwide.
This development is a clear departure from the recent weeks that have seen the country recording a surge in the cases of the COVID 19 pandemic.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night via Twitter, 288 new cases were recorded across 13 states and the Federal Capital territory.

Lagos topped the list with 88 new cases followed by Kwara – 33, Osun – 27 in second and third places respectively.

Enugu and the FCT recorded 25 cases each with Abia – 20, Kaduna – 17, Plateau and Rivers – 13, Delta – 10, Gombe – 8.
States with fewer cases include Ogun – 4, Oyo – 3, Katsina – 1, and Bauchi – 1.
The total number of infections in the country stands at 44,129, discharged patients at 20,663 while 896 people have lost their lives to the pandemic.
Recall that Nigeria has been recording a declining numbers of cases in the country. Nigeria recorded 481 cases on Thursday, July 30 which dropped to 462 on Friday and further dropped to 386 on Saturday and304 on Sunday. It dropped further to 288 on Monday in clear progress as the country battles to flatten the curve of the pandemic.
