Exit classes in secondary schools have been ordered to reopen starting from August 4.
The order was contained in a press release by the Federal Ministry of Education, Monday, July 27, 2020.
According to the release, students in exit classes will have two weeks to prepare for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASCE) which was scheduled to start on August 17.
The release added that the decision was unanimously reached by stakeholders in education in both public and private schools.
It read in part, “These were the unanimous decisions reached at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Honourable Commissioners of Education at the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and proprietors of private schools and Chief Executive Officers of examination bodies.”
The release added that meeting resolved to make a passionate plea to the Federal Government through Presidential Task Force on Covid -19 to endorse the resolution of the meeting.
“The meeting also resolve that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and the public spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country to enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening as agreed. “the release added.
It added that another meeting will be convened Tuesday between Federal Ministry of Education and the chief executives of examination bodies namely NECO, NABTAB, NBAIS to harmonize positions and examination dates.
