Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday appeared at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to participate in the screening exercise for all APC aspirants vying for the party’s governorship ticket in Edo State.

The screening of the six aspirants for the ruling party began on Wednesday afternoon at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Governor Obaseki arrived at about 1:10 and left after five minutes. However, the chairman of the screening committee, Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, said the screening was to verify all the documents provided by the aspirants and make recommendations to the party based on its findings.

The APC had inaugurated two committees to examine the six aspirants contesting in the June 22 Edo governorship primaries.

One of the committees will screen the aspirants, while the other will handle appeals arising from the screening. APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, inaugurated the committee on Tuesday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The screening of the aspirants will take place between June 10 and June 11, while the appeal committee will begin sitting on June 12.

Meanwhile, Obaseki has reacted to the news of confirmation of his Certificate by the University of Ibadan (UI). On Tuesday, while inaugurating the APC’s screening and appeal committees for aspirants, APC National Chairman,  Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said, “Someone should approach the UI and end this matter once and for all. If the certificate Obaseki parades is that of the UI, find out how did he pass senate screening of those days? I’m aware that in those days when this man never dreamt of becoming a governor, every student, no matter your status or your family name, must pass screening.”

But the UI management in a statement by its Registrar, Olubunmi Faluyi, on Wednesday, said  the governor graduated from the institution where he studied Classics.

“Obaseki gained admission to the University in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division. Records of his Admission and Graduation are intact in the archives of the University,” Faluyi said.

Reacting to the development via his Twitter handle shortly after the confirmation, Obaseki retweeted the story on the confirmation published by a media platform and wrote, “Posterity will always vindicate the just.”
