Breaking! Reps Vote Against Castration As Punishment For Rapists

The House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a motion recommending castration as punishment for rapists.

Following the wanton rape cases in the country, Reps member, James Faleke, had recommended that persons found guilty of rape should be castrated.

However, the House voted against the prayer. The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, before subjecting the prayer to a voice vote had demanded to know what would happen to an older female who rapes a younger male.

There was an affirmative no when the motion was put to voice vote.

The House is considering the motion to stem the rising cases of sexual violence in Nigeria.

Since the infamous murder of 100-level student of UNIBEN, Uwa Omozuwa, there has been deluge of accusations bordering on rape on social media.

Also, 18-year-old Barakat Bello of the Federal College of Animal and Production Technology Moore Plantation, Ibadan, was attacked and murdered by the rapists at her home in Akinyele area of Ibadan on Monday.
