Residents of the ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo state are worried over the confirmation of thirty-one new COVID-19 cases in the state as announced by Seyi Makinde, governor of the state.

30 of the cases are staff members of the same company and this has cause a heightened sense of tension among the people of the state.

A Twitter User with the handle @Natasha has however questioned the decision of the state government to keep the company’s name private as a disclosure of the company’s name would have made it easier to do contact tracing and for those who have been ii the company to make themselves available for testing and isolating.

‘I’m questioning the state’s decision to keep the company name private. Not sure it’s the right decision to be very honest. If there are clients that have interacted with the 30 workers, they need to be aware and be able to make themselves available for testing and self-isolation’ she wrote.

Recall that Makinde, governor of Oyo, while announcing the new mass infections on Saturday had revealed that the company premises has been shut down for decontamination but declined to name the company but only said it is based in Ibadan South-West local government area.

“The COVID-19 confirmation tests for thirty-one suspected cases came back positive. Thirty of these cases are members of staff of the same organization based in Ibadan South West Local Government Area. The organization has been shut down and will be decontaminated,” the statement read.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm as the situation is under control. Intensified contact tracing has already commenced. We will give an update on any additional measures that may need to be taken.

“The remaining one case is from Egbeda Local Government Area. So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State as at 8 PM today, is 107” he said.

He advised residents of the state who believe they could have been exposed to the coronavirus to register with the state emergency operations center for their samples to be collected for testing.

The governor also urged the people to report travelers arriving in their communities to the appropriate authorities, as part of efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
