The mass protest organized to kick against plans by the federal government to outlaw Amotekun, a security outfit launched to protect Western Nigeria suffered setback in Lagos state, Tuesday.
This is as police men armed to the teeth took over the venue of the peaceful protest organised by members of Yoruba World Congress, Odu’a Peoples Congress and other supporters of Operation Amotekun.
As early as 7:00am armed mobile policemen, took over the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, venue of the protest code-named “Amotekun Solidarity Walk”.
The walk was called at the instance of the Yoruba World Congress (YWC).
Speaking with The New Diplomat, the President of Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW), Barrister Oladotun Hassan said “Police stopped people from protesting today, people were harassed, chased away from the venue. They prevented people from going near the perimeter fencing at the park.”
Following the police hostility, protesters were forced to move into Ojota streets.
However, the peaceful walk was largely successful in other Southwest states of Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti.
