One-time powerful Nigerian Minister of Power and Steel, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu has been appointed as Chairman of Governing Board of Jigawa Investment and Properties Limited by the governor of Jigawa State, Badaru Abubakar.

Alhaji Dalhatu served as Minister of Power and Steel under the regime of late General Sanni Abacha. In 2000, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu was quizzed by the EFCC during the Obsanjo administration.

This appointment was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Adamu Abdulkadir. The former minister’s appointment came as a shock to many who believe that the role should have been left for younger persons.

Similarly, the governor has also approved the appointments of two other renowned business men, Salisu Sambajo and Mukhtar Ya’u M.Y as members of the governing board.

The statement said the appointments was “purely on merit, competence and personal integrity.”

The statement added: “it is hoped that the new appointees would discharge their duties diligently with dedication and probity.”

The appointments take immediate effect.
