No One Died In Bristow Helicopter Crash – LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA has disclosed that none of the eleven passengers, who were on board the ill-fated Bristow helicopter 5N BJQ that crashed into the ocean on Wednesday, died.

This was as officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, and Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, revealed that the chopper’s debris has already been recovered.

The accident occurred at 136.70 nautical miles from AEHA Field in Bonny Island, inward the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, even though consultant to the air transport company insists that the incident was not a crash but a controlled ditch.

While revealing that “all the 11 persons on board are alive,” General Manager of LASEMA, Michael Akindele stated that “the helicopter ditched inside the ocean”.

“Agip, Mobil and Shell oil companies provided speed boats, while Bristow Helicopter also provided landing boat for the evacuation of the survivors.

“Their survival is in adherence to the use of life jacket and the recently conducted emergency preparedness simulation of air crash by NEMA, LASEMA and other stakeholders.

“Further investigation on the crash will be looked into by the relevant authorities.”

Today’s accident happened about five months after a Bristow helicopter with 12 people on board crashed into a lagoon at the Oworonshoki axis of the third mainland bridge in Lagos, killing six people.
