The Urhobo Nationalist Movement has warned some unscrupulous elements within and outside Delta Central who are hell-bent on blackmailing illustrious sons and daughters of the Urhobo nation that have lifted the Urhobo people to national limelight in recent times.
The warning came on the heels of recent ugly development where some mischief makers are either by themselves or sponsored, denigrate the rising profile and personality of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, foremost APC Leader in Delta State and Engr. Dr. Samuel Adjogbe, Acting Executive Director of Projects, NDDC.
In a press release signed by the national chairman, Alh. Mumakai Unagha and made available to newsmen, the Urhobo movement warned sternly that it will go to any length to protect the good reputation of the two Urhobo illustrious sons, adding that the duo, through their patriotic effort, have brought great unprecedented development to the Urhobo nation and the Niger Delta in general.
The group said: “The two illustrious Urhobo sons are patriotic Urhobo to the core and Delta State in general, whose commitments to see to the opening up of the area has not been in doubt.
“We wish to state here that the Urhobo can go to war because of their patriotism so as to defend them.”
The group recalls that having lost its bearing especially on national issues in the recent past, Urhobo as a nation needs people like Emerhor, Adogbe and other committed patriots to move the nation forward, adding that, “we must appreciate one another, queue behind them to move the Urhobo Nation forward.”
It regretted that the current “pull-him-down” syndrome and infighting among the Urhobo will not provide the required political solution, pointing out that the Urhobo need to learn from their past mistakes and reflect on how to redeem its dwindling image.
“It is regrettable that in-fighting and pull-down syndrome amongst the Urhobo is not the political solution. At this moment of our time, we should learn from our past mistakes, take a deep breath on how to redeem the battered image that has brought the Urhobo down”, the movement noted.
The Urhobo movement noted that the duo of Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and Engr. Dr. Samuel Adjogbe are great gift from God for the Urhobo nation in particular and Nigeria in general, adding that “our focus should be tinkered towards what our future should be and how to achieve it, not to rubbish one another.
“Both O’tega Emerhor and Engr. Samuel Adjogbe are gift to Urhobo nation from God.”
It took a wider look at the state of infrastructural development across the Niger Delta, saying that “What the entire Niger Delta region did not achieve since the inception of the Niger Delta
Development Commission, the present Commission has done wonderfully beyond human expectation and imagination”, adding that “before now, jobs were abandoned having been paid for, but today the reverse has been the case. Jobs are monitored and completed and the entire Niger Delta has been opened up.”
