The management of Federal Government College (FGC), Odogbolu, Ogun State, has lauded the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for helping it to recover N20.1 million stolen by a staff in Federal Pay Office in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The management in a letter signed by the Principal of the School, Mrs. A. Bassey-Duke said that ICPC had helped the school to bounce back from near collapse following its inability to pay contractors due to the fraud.
The letter reads in part, “On behalf of the entire management, staff, students and affected contractors. I wish to express our deep heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman, the entire management and the investigation team of the Commission for their vigorous efforts to recover the looted funds”.
The letter also showed disbursement made so far from the money that was received in December, 2015. It said that more than N1.23 million had so far been spent on loaves of bread for students’ meal.
The school also paid contractors N7.15 million for the renovation of one classroom and another N2.6 million to renovate Junior Secondary School 2 extension class.
Further breakdown of the expenditures incurred by the school included N3 million paid to contractors for completion of work in the Administration Block and N34, 000 for supply of raw pap (Akamu), a local food drink.
More breakdown of spending by the school within the period indicated that N1.78 million was spent on iced fish for students’ meal and N1.83 million for buying of tomatoes, pepper and other soup ingredients for feeding of the students.
It will be recalled that ICPC in 2015, recovered N56 million out of N103 million stolen by a Federal Pay Officer in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The money was meant for feeding of students and other developmental projects in three Federal Government Colleges.
