Olorogun O’tega Emerhor has won the Senatorial ticket of the parallel APC primary for Delta Central Senatorial district held Wednesday at the Ughelli Public field in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Announcing the result of the primary, the electoral officer who oversaw the exercise, Mr. Solomon Ikpiaye, declared that Olorogun Emerhor polled a total of 2,492 valid votes to beat Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who boycotted the primary, to a distant second polling just 4 votes. He disclosed that the total votes cast was 2,496 out of which 13 were invalid votes.
He therefore declared Olorogun Emerhor as the winner of the Delta Central Senatorial primary having polled the highest number of valid votes to clinch the senatorial ticket of the APC for Delta Central Senatorial district.
It would be recalled that as early as 6 am the venue of the primary has been filled to capacity with delegates from different parts of the Senatorial district who came to cast their votes in the primary for the senatorial aspirant of their choice.
Accreditation commenced early in the morning and accredited delegates were given ballot papers to cast their votes in a local government by local government manner with Ughelli North delegates taking their turn first.
Olorogun Emerhor led the Ughelli North delegates to cast their votes and sorting and counting of the total votes cast commenced, followed with the announcement by the Electoral Officer who also acted as the Returning officer.
In his acceptance speech shortly after he was declared the winner of the senatorial primary, Olorogun Emerhor, stated that he was grateful for the support and confidence reposed on him by the party delegates who voted for him to be the party senatorial candidate for the 2019 election.
He said: “I’m grateful for this show of support and confidence that you have reposed on me. And I can assure you that I will go and represent you properly.”
Emerhor recalled that the Delta State exco of the party which monitored the party primary was the authentic state exco which was inaugurated by the immediate past national working committee of the party, adding that the senatorial primary has to be held under the supervision of the Chief Cyril Ogodo-led state exco as it was the only legitimate exco known to law.
He assured the people that the legitimacy issue which the Ogod-led exco is presently litigating in the court will be upheld and his senatorial candidacy will also be upheld.
“As you know, this exco that has voted here was duly inaugurated by the last national working committee. And you the exco is in court to defend the mandate that has been given to you. And that is why we came here to subject ourselves to the only legitimate delegate list and delegate exco in Delta Central APC.
“I believe that the court will make sure that your exco is upheld and my candidacy is upheld.”
He assured the people that with the mandate given to him, he will go to Abuja to properly represent the people of Delta Central.
He reminded the people that the primary was the first leg, adding that the ultimate was to defeat the PDP in the main election. He therefore urged the people to stand by him when the campaign will start so that the Urhobo votes will be galvanized for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, for himself and other APC candidates for other positions.
