With the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) around the corner and aspirants making frantic effort to consult leaders, elders and members of the party across the state over their ambition, a frontline governorship aspirant, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei has vowed to do a four year term if given the opportunity to scale through the primary to become the party’s flag-bearer, and eventually win the main election as governor of the state on the platform of the APC come 2019.

Hon. Ochei gave this assurance Sunday, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, when he paid a consultation visit on the leader of APC in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor in his country home, Evwreni.

Olorogun Emerhor and Victor Ochei (centre) in a handshake flanked by other party leaders.

Ochei who is a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, acknowledged that there is a subsisting age-long understanding of rotation of the governorship position of Delta State between the three senatorial districts of Delta South, Delta Central and Delta North, adding that going by that understanding, the Delta North Senatorial district, having completed four years tenure under the incumbent governor, is left with one four year term from 2019 to 2023.  He therefore vowed that if voted to power as the next governor of the state, he would do a single four year term and allows the governorship to rotate to Delta Central whose turn it will be to produce the next governor for eight years starting from 2023.

He said: “for anybody who knows me, the only thing left of me that has not been stripped by politics, money, wealth or accomplishment, remains my integrity.  If I say it, my word is my bond, how much more when I put my pen to paper and I sign it, my word remains my bond.”

Earlier, the APC governorship aspirant had reported to the party leader in the state, Olorogun Emerhor that he had gone round the entire state to consult with leaders and stakeholders of the party, adding that in all, he had garnered resounding reception and acceptability and now very ready for the primary and ultimately the main election.

“My leader, I have been going round the state and I have just concluded that process.  I have only Udu federal constituency to meet with. Every other federal constituency has been consulted.  It is now to start consulting the leaders. And you are the very first because among the pack you are the very first. Therefore, I have come to start this part of consultation with you”, Ochei said.

The governorship aspirant pleaded with Olorogun Emerhor to consider him worthy to fly the flag of APC, stressing that he has all it takes to win the main election.

Responding, Olorogun Emerhor thanked the governorship aspirant for deeming it necessary to consult him in his quest to ride on the crest of the APC to Osadebe House in 2019, adding that he (Ochei) has contributed so much to ensure the stability of the party in the state.

Emerhor urged the governorship aspirant to continue to work hard and reach out to other leaders, elders and members of the party, so that whichever way the primary may come, he will be successful at the end of the day.
