A group, under the aegis of Agenda of the Second Summit of Nigerian Elders and Leaders on the State of Democracy, the Economy and National Security has described the statement by President Buhari on the rule of law and national security as treasonable, and asked him to withdraw it.
Speaking on behalf of the group on Thursday, in Abuja, during its meeting elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo, said the president’s statement was treasonable and demanded its withdrawal.
“It is time to tell Mr. President that the statement he made that Sunday is treasonable for you to rewrite the constitution that the rule of law is under state security,” Adebanjo said.
He added: “All the rule of law you are talking that is subject to national security and security of the state who decides that, Mr. President?”
“It will not work. We are going to demand from this meeting that he should withdraw that statement. That statement was very inappropriate and also amounted to treason to change the constitution of the whole country by word of mouth. It is not right.”
Others present at the event were Junaid Mohammed; frontline Northern politician and Second Republic lawmaker, Ango Abdullahi, and Chairman of the Forum, Edwin Clark.
Others were Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former governor of Anambra State; Olu Falae, National Chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP), and others.
