The ruling party, All Progressive Congress, APC has won the Katsina North Senatorial district seat and President Muhammadu Buhari’s zone with a landslide victory. Ahmed Baba Kaita The APC flagbearer, Ahmad Babba Kaita polled 224,607 votes against it close rival, Kabir Babba Kaita of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who polled 59,724 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Returning Officer, Professor Hudu Ayuba Abdullahi announced the election results in Daura in the early hours of Sunday.

Prof. Abdullahi declared Ahmad Babba Kaita winner having scored the highest number of votes. According to him, “That Ahmad Babba Kaita having certified the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Prof. Abdullahi stated. The Returning officer, adjudged the election as peaceful as no injury or death was recorded from the conduct of the election.

Other contestants at the election include Green Party of Nigeria, GPN, Mustapha Muhammad Lawal who scored 1,056 votes, Democratic Alternative, DA, Nura Ibrahim, 796 votes, Mega Party of Nigeria, MPN, Aliyu Tasiu Yemel, 633 votes and Masses Movement of Nigeria, MMN, Hussaini Musa with 343 votes. The election was to fill the vacant seat created by the death of late Senator Mustapha Bukar.
