Fifteen persons have been injured following a suicide bombing attack in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Wednesday.

This was confirmed in a statement signed by the Commissioner of Police Borno State Command, Mr Damian Chukwu.

According to the statement, two female suicide bombers on board a tricycle, with Reg No.K621, had attempted to force themselves into the 333 Artillery defunct Mammy Market in Maiduguri at about 8:00 pm on Wednesday.

The first bomber was said to have gone to the gate to purchase a ticket to access the market but was shot into explosion by a soldier on sentry.

Afterwards, the tricycle rider fled while the 2nd bomber detonated his Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the tricycle.

Both bombers died instantly, leaving 15 others which included military personnel, injured.

The police, however, say the victims were immediately rushed to the hospital and are responding to treatment.

Also according to the CP, the scene has been sanitized by men of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and normalcy has been restored.

He further stated that investigation is ongoing.
