Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala who was named Women’s Footballer of the year in Ghana’s capital city Accra for third time Thursday night had said people have already given up on her career when she decided to leave her former club, Arsenal for China.

“It was an emotional journey for me in 2017. Winning this award is one of the best moments in my career, when I left Arsenal to China people said my career was over, here I’m winning this award once again.

“I’m using this opportunity to appeal to young ladies out there to follow their mind,” she said.

Oshoala previously won the award in 2014 and 2016 . She beat Cameroonian Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and Chrestina Kgatlana of South Africa to the top prize.

The 2015 BBC Women’ s Footballer of the Year moved to Dalian Quanjian of China at the beginning of last season after enduring a not – so – successful period in England with Liverpool and Arsenal LAdies.
